Kenneth Hickey has more than 40 years of experience in law, labor relations, and business consulting. A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and a former U.S. Navy JAG officer, Ken began his legal career at the national law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Washington, D.C., where he became a partner in the Labor and Employment Law section.
Over his 24 years at the firm, Ken represented clients across a wide range of industries, including baking, shipping, entertainment, and public employment, advising on negotiations, unfair labor practices, mediation, and labor relations strategy. He also specialized in pension and health benefits law, serving billion-dollar funds with complex regulatory needs.
In 1995, Ken launched his solo practice, working closely with small businesses, advising on company formation, employment matters, mergers and acquisitions, and contract disputes. He has handled more than 100 business transactions and mediations, and served as a trusted advisor and board member to multiple companies — including as principal business advisor to a large cable media company during major investment deals, including the $50 million sale of multiple broadcast properties.
In 2011, Ken and his lovely wife, Mary, moved from the Washington, D.C. area, to Columbus, Ohio.
Ken Hickey joined the State Employment Relations Board agency as a full time mediator in early 2012. From 2012 until 2024 when Mr. Hickey retired from SERB, he mediated over 200 cases. Ken also conducted over 30 Interest Based Bargaining negotiations over his twelve years with SERB. Since his retirement, Mr. Hickey continues to assist parties in negotiations and also is on the roster of SERB neutrals for fact finding and conciliation.
Ken is an avid Ohio State fan and enjoys attending numerous sporting events and live music performances.
